Summary: Colby is stuck with the bane of his existence: Paperwork. *cue dramatic music*

Three Numbers

Colby ran a hand through his hair in frustration as he glared balefully at the mounds of paperwork piled on his desk. He'd called Charlie half an hour before, regretfully canceling their dinner plans for the evening. The team had been chasing down leads and suspects all day and hadn't been able to stop long enough to do much paperwork. They'd barely even managed to eat lunch. His green eyes glared down at his watch, as if, by glaring hard enough, he could slow time down enough so he could finish all his paperwork and still be able to meet Charlie for dinner.

With a sigh, Colby turned his attention back to the paperwork still sitting on his desk, oblivious to the amused glances being traded by his co-workers.

Ten minutes later, Colby started slightly as his computer pinged, alerting him to a new email. Grateful for the break, how ever short, he opened Outlook and checked the email. A smile appeared like sunshine on his face as he read the message.

'CG,

1 4 3.

CE'

Colby chuckled softly and clicked the 'Reply' button, sending a swift reply.

'CE,

1 4 3, 3.

CG'

They'd developed the simple code not long after their first anniversary, when they'd both confessed their love. Both men lived busy lives and couldn't always spare the time to send a terribly long email or text message, so, instead, they sent 1 4 3: the numbers of the letters of each word in 'I love you.' So it was that Colby returned to his work with a soft smile flitting about his lips, humming softly while his friends looked on in fond amusement.

End.
